Our atmosphere pit furnaces enable us to vertically process long slender parts
such as knives, shear blades, machine ways, and shafts thus minimizing distortion and
reducing the straightening required.
Materials that can be processed
include:
- Air hardening and oil hardening
tool steels such as A-2, A-8, D-2,S-5,S-7,
- H-13 and O-1.
- Medium carbon alloy steels such as
4130, 4140, and 4340.
- Low carbon grades such as 1018,
8620 or 9310 which can be carburized and either hardened or slow cooled for further
processing.
Two furnaces are available for
vertically processing long, slender parts. One with a 18in. dia.x 124 in. capacity and one
with a 24 in. dia.x 53 in. capacity.
Longer air hardening tool steel
parts can be processed horizontally in our 185in. muffle furnace.
Unfortunately the above furnaces
are not capable of running materials such as high speed steel that require temperatures
over 1900°F.
Precision straightening is
available to complement the above hardening capabilities.
